His childhood environment had a profound harmful effect on Jelly Roll as he was arrested for selling Marijuana and attempted robbery. He was only fourteen years of age when he was caught selling drugs. Although he was a minor of fourteen years, due to the severity of the crime, he was charged as an adult.
Afterwards, the court sentenced him to 20 years in jail. However, Jelly only spent one year in prison and the next seven years on probation for his crime. After being released from custody, Jelly Roll never returned to his criminal life again and started his career as a rapper and singer.
